» Ordinary - Movie Review:
Ordinary, directed by Sugeeth and starring Kunchacko Boban, Biju Menon, Salim Kumar, Suraj Venjramoodu, Sritha Sreenivas, Nedumudi Venu and Babu Raj amongst many others is a good to watch entertainer. Sugeeth has handled relationship very well in the movie. The narrative of Ordinary flows with ease and is extremely energetic and entertaining. Apart from the lead actors, the characters of Vavachan (Baburaj) and the school master Jose (Jishnu) is fun to watch and together they help in making your funny bones tickle in the first half. Director Sugeeth entertains you in the first half with perfect comic timing and sense of humour. However, the script of Ordinary soon weakens, especially in the second half as the story is unnecessarily stretched. Moreover, the second half becomes very monotonous and serious, thus getting the movie to lose its charm. The film gets very predictable in the second half and the suspense element is missing. However, the scenic beauty of the hill station of Gavi has been beautifully captured by cinematographer Shaiju. Music by Vidyasagar is very soothing and suits the script very well. Overall, Ordinary is a fine fare and a must watch!
Iravi Kuttan Pillai (Kunchako Boban) is appointed as the conductor of KSRTC bus service that shuttles between Pathanamthitta and Gavi, a small and beautiful hill station. Suku (Biju Menon) is the driver. Iravi soon establishes a special rapport with the driver and the commuters. He ends up meeting Kalyani (Sritha Sreenivas) in Gavi and is able build a beautiful relationship with her. Soon, Iravi begins to considering the villagers as his extended family. A sudden turn of events changes the lives of the characters.
The on-screen chemistry between Kunchacko Boban and Biju Menon is a treat to watch. Though Kunchacko Boban, Ann Augustine, Jishnu and debutant Shritha Srinivas have done a great job, it is Biju Menon who stands out with an outstanding performance. Another person who stands out is Baburaj. He handles his role with utmost ease and charm. Vidyasagar, the veteran music director has given some soothing melodies which goes well with the mood of the film, blending with the theme. Sugeeth has made a remarkable entry as a director. The movie could have been outstanding, had he taken more care in shaping the second half a little bit more better! The energetic and lively first half almost turns a dull fare in the second half thanks to the predictable events and too much of seriousness. Ordinary could have been an extraordinary film with a better second half, but there is no denying the fact that the debutant director has proven his potential as a filmmaker with fresh ideas and creativity, and we can expect more such makes in the coming days from him for sure.
